Tel Ha Shomer & Help for Life Home
By: Jo Kaplan - The Joseph Project     26 Jul 2010

ISRAEL'S 2ND LARGEST HOSPITAL GETS HUGE WEEK-LONG DELIVERY
During the week of June 6, Sheba Hospital (Tel HaShomer) in central Israel, was the recipient of several containers of all-new medical supplies worth many thousands of dollars. The delivery was so large that it took two-three trips per day for a week.

Some of the items included in the donation were wheelchairs, crutches, canes, orthopedic braces of all types, walkers, basins and containers, pill cups, cast padding/boots/shoes, hospital sheets, patient gowns,
surgeon scrub sets, surgical drapes, sharps collectors, etc. These supplies were shipped to us by Jezreel International.

The hospital greatly appreciated the timely contribution, the size of it, and the fact that nothing was asked for in return, and offered to place a plaque in the hospital commemorating the donation.

NEW RELATIONSHIP WITH ISRAEL SERVICE ORGANIZATION

The Joseph Project was contacted by Israel's organization for the mentally handicapped, in regards to the need for replacement furniture in its life homes for mentally disabled adults across the country. To our alarm, the home in Kfar Saba in the center of the country, not far from our warehouse, was full of broken beds (!) and dilapidated sofas, tables, chairs, etc. We wanted to help, but this facility had another problem: it spread across three stories, with no elevator -- how would they move these things out . . . and the new ones in?

I decided to put out a call to the congregation near to the life home, as well as to our network aid center nearby. Both of them had not heard of this life home (there are no signs -- looks like a regular apartment building), and we were able to raise three volunteers to work on a very warm day to take out all of the furniture from the three floors and to haul in the replacement furniture that we provided to them -- 15 beds, sofas, dining table, chairs, wardrobes, etc. It was a sacrificial labor that I am sure is rewarding when they think back about it. Our truck made three runs with a full load back and forth from our warehouse to the life home, which meant 3 load-ups for our warehousemen. (They also get a blessing when they think back at their efforts.)

I certainly do not want to realize on my last day on earth that there were people that had no one to help them and needed help, when I could have offered some help. It is an awesome feeling to reach out to those that sometimes no one else has known to reach out to.
WHAT IS THE JOSEPH PROJECT?

We are an Israeli registered Public Institution with a network of 30 independent humanitarian aid centers, also supplying nearly every nonprofit in Israel, such as the IDF Ministry of Welfare offices, hospitals, paramedics, institutions for the elderly, sheltered, and disabled, victims of terror, and the unemployed.

Helping 60,000 to 70,000 people per year, the Joseph Project is run from a 16,000 square-foot warehouse that can hold 100 large shipping containers.  Since 2000, the Joseph Project has imported over 310 containers of aid into Israel that is donated by lovers of Israel – the Christian community and Messianic Jews.

In 2007 the Joseph Project International Forest was established near Kiryat Shmona in northern Israel as a Messianic Israel Forest where Jews, Christians and Arabs could  bless the soil of Israel.
