Social Justice The so called cease-fire continues. And while the world’s governing bodies try to determine guilt and innocence, we continue to help the innocent and weak among us. Over the past month The Jerusalem Institute of justice has distributed thousands of down blankets to the elderly in Israel. The majority of the recipients are Holocaust survivors. Through various community centers and municipalities we receive the names of those in need. It was our pleasure to take the blankets to these centers and personally hand them out. We will continue to do so as long as the funds are available. Your support is vital and we thank you for contributions.
The JIJ also joined several organizations to bless the elderly in Sderot during the war (see previous newsletter). For three weeks in a row we delivered a hot Shabbat meal, groceries, toiletries and encouragement to the house-bound elderly citizens. We were told by some that we are an answer to their prayers. What a privilege to bless others. Thank you for equipping us to be your hands in the land of Israel.
Civil Rights We continue to be a voice for those without a voice in Israel. An important ongoing case which we are working on involves a young woman who was brought to Israel against her will when she was 12 years old. She arrived in Israel in the custody of a Coptic Ethiopian priest who sexually abused her and then left her to fend for herself. Now an adult, she is being denied any type of residency status because according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Interior, residency is only granted to foreign children who have attended a recognized public or religious school in Israel. Ironically, in order to survive, she cleaned and did maintenance at a public school. So instead of attending school and getting an education, she was cleaning classrooms. Regardless of mandatory education laws in Israel, the government failed in this case to provide education for her. This should not be held against her now. The Jerusalem Institute of Justice is battling on her behalf in the courts.
Through your support, we can grant pro-bono legal representation to needy individuals that would otherwise have to raise thousands of Dollars to protect their rights. Without your help, these people would not see justice.

Justice for the weak.
